Camera Flash training at Crewe Hall - March 2019
I was lucky enough to be asked by Helen Williams of www.helenwilliamsphotography.co.uk, to join her on her flash training course at Crewe Hall March 2019. The course consisted of 10 other photographers who wanted to start using flash more whilst photographing weddings and portraits.
I have been using flash consistently for the last 10 years at my weddings I have photographed, so I was more than happy to help out and share some knowledge. The idea was to start at the very beginning, and advance throughout the day, using flash in all situations, inside, outside in the daylight and at night time. Crewe Hall had been selected as the venue, as it offers every possible lighting situation, so by the end of the day everyone would be able to deal with every possible senerio. We started in the classroom, going over the flash settings and various rules to think about when using flash. But there is no better way to learn than on the job, so we had 2 selected 2 models to pose as a bride and groom, a cake, a table dressed for a wedding, flowers, shoes and Jewellery.
The photographers on the course, use either little or no flash when it comes to photography, so our aim was to show the benefits, and how it can change the look of any photo, creating better, more creative looking photos and making them stand out from the crowd.
One of the most important things we taught is balancing the ambient light with the flash light, taking a photo of the surroundings first, then adding light afterwards to add make the photo 'POP'.
