We have bought some new equipment!
Our shoot was initially arranged to test out our new camera equipment, we thought we would upgrade everything for our 2019 season. Our new cameras of choice are the Sony A7iii using the Sony 35mm F/1.4 and the Batis Zeiss 85mm f/1.8 lenses. We have worked with Canon cameras now for around 10 years, and never really missed a beat, but Canon are now being left behind by their competitors, such as Sony. But what is the difference I hear you ask? As it is now 2019, technology is moving quickly and Sony are leading the way, the focus system on this camera is out of this world, being able to track anything with pinpoint precision. The camera will track eyes, without even having to look through view finder, which is ultra important to us when shooting a wedding, meaning not one moment is missed. The low light capabilities on the Canon 5dmk4 was always amazing, however the Sony blows it away, for you photographers out there, we did some test shots on 12800 ISO, and the canon equivalent I would say was would be around 6500, so half as good.
As good as the camera is, it is quite complex to use, there are so many menu options, making it hard to get used to, because of this will be keeping the Canon 5dmk4 at weddings to run along side, mainly for ease of use and setup speed. I believe using these 2 cameras together will be a game changer when photographing our weddings, but let’s wait and see!
For our lighting, we used 2 Godox Ad200's which for wedding photography could not be better, they are lightweight, very powerful and recycle very quickly. We have used a number of flash setup over the years including, the Elinchrom Quadra HSS and various speed lights, but nothing compares to these as an all-rounder.
Venue of Choice
We chose Vale Royal Abbey to take our photos for this styled shoot, we have worked here a number of times in the past, and have photographed many weddings. The setting here is simply stunning, it is set within 150 acres of stunning countryside, making it a photographers dream. We used the Great Hall as a setting for the start of our shoot, with is painted ceiling, wooden beams and natural light from every direction, what more could you ask for.
The front of the building is just amazing, the light from the sunset lights up the front of the building, so we took our model outside for photos at this time with the building in the background, as you can see from our photos below, it just looks incredible. As a photographer, at any venue we look for skies to be visible, without being obstructed by trees or other buildings, and without a doubt the views of the sky here are some of the best we ave ever seen. Again looking at of photos below, you can see so much of the sky, so whether it's dramatic or has a sunset, no matter what the time of year, it can always be captured.
Our contact and wedding coordinator at Vale Royal Abbey is Vicky, she is one of the nicest wedding planners we have ever met, she cannot do enough for you, very professional, if every wedding planner was like Vicky, our job would be so easy!
Hair & Make-up
Hair and make-up was by the very talented Rebecca from the beauty spot, Northwich (www.facebook.com/TheBeautySpotNorthwich).
We photographed Becky's wedding 2 years ago, and was lovely to see her again, and we were very lucky to have her along on the day. Becky did the hair and makeup for our model Jade on the day, she is very talented at what she does, and very highly recommended, but don't take our word for it, see for yourself in the pictures below.
Flowers
Wow, what can we say! As florists go, it doesn't come much better than Joanne from Buttercups & Daisy's. Joanne is one of the nicest fun loving people you can meet and incredibly talented. We recommend and work with Jo a lot and she never fails to deliver only the best. I was lucky enough to help shoot Jo's wedding, where she had made the flowers herself, and honestly, I've never seen anything like it, it was the best flower arrangement Id ever seen.
